  • Knock Knock, 2015 - ★★½ January 23, 2022
Eli Roth is the director of this movie. And it is the least violent horror story of his I remember watching. He is more known for torture porn horror movies. Knock Knock leans more toward the porn than the torture. I would describe it more as softcore porn. As to why so many recognizable names are involved in this movie, I am not sure I would know the answer […]
  • Charade, 1963 - ★★★★ January 15, 2022
Here is a story of mystery blended with a bit of flirtatious romance. It features Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. I love watching their movies. I am drawn more to this version of the story than its reboot, The Truth About Charlie (2002). I appreciate the banter in this movie. It is not always subtle, but the delivery is perfect.
  • Black Narcissus, 1947 - ★★★★ January 1, 2022
I am subtracting a point for the use of brownface. Why is it even necessary? It is a glaring mistake, in my opinion. The rest of the movie is perfect. I loved the use of matte paintings, miniature sets, lighting design, acting performances, and so on. For those who want a fresh interpretation of the story, I would recommend the 2020 mini-series. It stars Gem […]

A Frenchman portrays a Scotsman. a Scotsman portrays an Egyptian, and so on. I cannot believe the irony of a poorly aged homophobic insult written into the dialogue, while […]
